Clayton, Alabama is a small town located in Barbour County in southeastern Alabama. The town has a population of approximately 3,000 people. The town was incorporated in 1895 and is named after Governor Henry D. Clayton. The town is the county seat of Barbour County and home to several historic buildings, including the Barbour County Courthouse, which was built in 1903. Clayton is located about 85 miles southeast of Montgomery, Alabama's capital city. The town is situated along US Highway 231 and Alabama State Route 51, making it easily accessible by car. The nearest major airport is the Montgomery Regional Airport, which is approximately 80 miles northwest of Clayton.
